“Lulu Chorr is a remote village, about 7km south off the Trans-Gambia south bank road via Kampant main junction. It is a Jola tribe community of roughly 300 people. It is a traditional farming community that depends on seasonal rains to harvest corn, groundnut and millet. The community is remote and most often forgotten. It has only one handpump which the entire community depends on and it broke down overtime. They usually use donkey carts and travel miles across the border into southern Senegalese region of Cassamance, and most of the times they face harsh treatment from those villages because those villages themselves don’t have enough water and so they see the people of Lulu Chorr as disturbance towards their water security. The community has no option, for a long while now, they were using an open well for drinking and other household activities which has the potential for outbreak of waterborne diseases.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
