“Rebekah Gubbo is 55 years old, residing in Jamara Centre before the conflict in Kupera County. She has eight children that she relocated to Uganda in one of the refugee camps to enable them to access education. Currently, Rebekah is staying alone while operating a small restaurant in Jamara trading centre. She offers tea, coffee, local food, and baked Mandazi. This is where she raises income to cater for her needs and also to support her children in the camp. When the bore-hole broke, it became so difficult for her to operate the business because water needed to make up the product. Every morning before setting the restaurant, she has to walk a long distance to fetch water from unclean water points every day. This has affected the effectiveness of the business as well as causing some health problems, hence cases of cough, typhoid and stomach discomfort are so prevalent in the community. Rebekah is now relieved from covering long distances while carrying 20 litres of water everyday morning, noon, and even in the evening. She’s thrilled because her business is going to run smoothly without any problem with water. She’s experiencing a good life through clean water, and she’s thankful to the supporters of drop4drop.”

This project was undertaken as part of our campaign of projects that actively reduce carbon emissions. This project helped the community save their much needed wood which was previously being burnt daily to boil water. This project has also eliminated the many thousands of hours previously spent on walking to collect water.
